The Dakar Adventure Begins
So the last two and a bit months have been a little crazy, ok, maybe flat-out insane would be a better description. I am officially the race engineer for the DMack/Barden Dakar rally team which starts on the 5th of January 2014. I will somehow try to explain all that now.
I saw a tweet and took a chance by giving my qualifications and asking if they needed another team member. Later that day had an interview, and by the end of the day I had the job. The Dakar rally is the toughest race on earth, with close to 6000km of racing over two weeks in some of the harvest conditions on earth. The 2014 edition will be taking place in Argentina and Chile for the vehicles. Highlights include going over the Andes and through the driest place on earth, the Atacama desert.
Anyway, over the last few months I have stripped and rebuilt a race car which was a new experience. Work hours were often from 5am to 11pm and sometimes more. I have never learnt more in such a short space of time (Relatively of course). The car left here on the 15th of December and so I have had a week or two off.
Tomorrow is the day though. At sometime around 10 we leave to join the car in a place called Zarat, just outside Buenos Ares. We have a few days of testing and then we head to the start in Rosario.
Anyway, I thought that I should update this blog of mine which has very much fallen out the window since all of this happened. If you want to follow the progress there are multiple options given below. I will try to update here as often as possible but time is a big factor over there so we shall just have to wait and see.
